Childhood Apraxia of Speech can be associated with certain medical conditions:
- With conditions known to cause neurological problems and damage eg stroke,trauma, intrauterine or early childhood stroke, brain tumours, infection.
- In association with other childhood neurodevelopmental disorders eg Autism Spectrum Disorder, Rett Syndrome, Galactosemia, Williams Syndrome, Down’s Syndrome, Prader-Willi Syndrome, Developmental Co-ordination Disorder and others.
- Idiopathic ie. No one knows why (yet).
